Because you would have to fight your own battles, you would have to buy a military armored tank and live in it, as well carry the most powerful firearms just to make it in one day. And even then, you would always lose because there would always be somebody who would have a bigger tank, better weapons, and that person would even have a gang of thugs to help overtake you. So I do hope that you are beginning to see the real value in the Police patrolling your streets, but there are 7 types of patrol that I intend to share with you today that the Police uses in protecting and serving you.
I must tell you that in all the world of defense, this is the best way for the police to defend you. And no other patrol is more effective than this one, but sadly it is the most hated by Police Officers nowadays. Because they would rather sit and patrol in their Police vehicles, which have all the bells and whistles, all the while enjoying the air conditioning, laptop, radio, leather seats etc... But with foot patrol, the Police has very high visibility of all that is going in the streets, in an Apartment complex, and they can easily become invisible as well, anytime of their choosing. Also they can be up close and personal with every suspicious person, with every citizen, with every person who is in need of help. And when the Officers are walking the beat, they can get some great exercises to stay fit, as well they can see what everyone is doing at all times. Additionally, they can work a spot, befriend people and gather up intelligence, and since they are right there on scene, they can easily respond to any trouble if their presence is not enough to deter criminal activities. And only drawbacks are, they can't respond to anywhere else in the city, and are confined to that one area since they are on foot. Also can not give chase to anyone fleeing by car.
Automobile patrol or vehicle patrol, is a great tool to use because the Police can cover a wide area within the city, they can quickly inspect an entire housing community within a few minutes and be able to sum up all the potential troubles. Also they can have all the tools they need within their vehicle to effectively do their job in protecting you, and they can quickly respond to any area where trouble has reared it's criminal head. But they can not really blend in with the community, they can't become invisible in order to observe potential problems. And the Police tends to isolate itself from the public, and in a vehicle the Officers to ignore small areas and focus on high traffic areas.
With bicycle patrol, the Officers can be very effective with community policing, with interaction, with surveillance, with camouflaging, with effective crime fighting. They can zip in and out any corridors, any alleyway, any trouble spot. But they are limited in pursuing fleeing felons, they are limited in having all their Police gear available to them.

This one is where you see the Police Officer on a horse doing patrol. And this is a great type of patrol because the Officer is always on high ground and can observe all things taking place. He or she can gallop their way into trouble whenever and wherever it happens, they can pursue anyone fleeing on foot, they can use their horse for effective crowd control since horses are built to have no fears and can gallop into all types of battles. But there are also weaknesses, such as they can not pursue a fleeing felon in a vehicle, they can not have all the Police gear available to them, they can not get access to all areas. As well the horse must have a source of water, and it also has to relieve itself, so patrol has to be stopped for such personal needs.
To patrol on motorcycle can be a breeze because it is extremely fast, and it can get around any and all spots where a Police vehicle can not. And the motorcycle is cheap on gas and can be shut off for tactical surveillance, it can also be use to catch-up with anyone fleeing by vehicle. But there are drawbacks as well, in that it can not work well for pursuit when it is raining, as the roads become very slippery. It makes a lot of noise when trying to perform surveillance.
Whenever crime is afoot in any water way, then boat patrol is the way to go. And the Police can work hand in hand with the Coast Guard in pursuing and apprehending suspects. Any drug deals, any drunk boating, any drowning and other accidents can quickly be handled by the use of a boat. But a boat can not pursue on the ground, it can be sunk with just one bullet, it can not be used as a defensive tactic.
Helicopter patrol is use for macro surveillance, in that it is used for the big picture of things way up high in the sky. It is used as the Eye In The Sky to pursue vehicles, fleeing and hiding suspects, rendering faster service during medical emergencies. And it can not be outrun, but the Police Officers can not just set this bird down anywhere, or give chase in corridors, under bridges, in underground parking lots.
